Gospel Jam and Concert
make a joyful noise
with American Roots Music
The Roots Music Gospel Jam and Concert is a chance for people to play and sing old hymns in the Roots music traditions of bluegrass, folk and other Americana music styles. The Jam is as much a concert as a jam so that it offers singers and spectators an evening of music. We have a core group of musicians and singers that play through a sound system and we rotate anyone that's interested into the sound system. But everyone is encouraged to sit in the front row and play along. If you're a beginner, there will likely be other more advanced musicians to help you. If you're not a player but like old time gospel music, please tell a friend and come spend an evening with us. These 2 hours are spirited and interactive, with fun contests and lots of audience participation.
We break the evening into 2 sections. The first section is a traditional gospel sing where we play songs that entice the audience to sing along. This fun time comes with lots of joking around, some stories, contests and prizes. We then have a short break for dinner/refreshments. Feel free to bring a potluck dish of finger-food, but its not a requirement, there's always plenty to eat. After dinner, we have smaller groups in a more performance based set. If you'd like to perform or have a small group (2-5 instruments/singers), we'd love to have you come and perform for us in this set. Just contact me for more information.
This little jam is usually held the 4th Sunday of the month, in Elverta CA. This rural town is just a few minutes north of downtown Sacramento. If that Sunday is associated with a traditional 3-day weekend holiday, then there will be no Jam that month. Some months have 5 Sundays, but the Jam is always on the 4th Sunday. Some months will not have a jam due to conflicts, so always check here first.

The Next Jam is March 23. Send me an email if you'd like to be notified of dates and the "Thursday Night" practice get-togethers. Be sure to click the PICTURES link at top for photos and videos from past jams.
